New Neuroscience Course This Spring!

NSCI-466-01 Cellular Neurophysiology Laboratory
Course Instructor: Dr. James Cronin
1 credit, meets in Stern 2021 Mon 2-5 (section 02) or Fri 1-4 (section 03)
Pre-requisite: Cellular Neuroscience (NSCI/ CELL 331)
Open only to undergraduates.
Course Description: Students conduct a series of electrophysiology experiments on crawfish, snail, fish, and mammalian hippocampus preparations. The lab is held once a week for three hours. Emphasis is on learning basic neuroelectrophysiology as well as an introduction to eletrophysiological recording techniques by conducting extracellular and intracellular recordings.

Internship Opportunity

The Center for Public Service is offering Academic Service Learning Internships to juniors, seniors, and Masters students with a GPA of 3.0 or above. Students have to submit an application by Dec. 1. The internship will require at least 70 hours of work at one of the local hospitals (Ochsner, Touro, or Children's), participation in a weekly seminar (there are a few topics to choose from, and they meet once/week for an hour), completion of a journal, and completion of a final project that is beneficial to the organization where the work is being completed. Students will earn 3 credit hours for the internship, which does not count towards any of the neuroscience requirements, but does count as elective credit towards graduation. Some of the options for the internship (which are given on a first come, first serve basis) are: shadowing a physician, working in a research laboratory, volunteering with patient care, assisting with therapies, etc.

If you are interested in this opportunity and/or have more questions about the internships, please contact Faye Kim (fkim@tulane.edu; 862-3355; Center for Public Service in 327 Gibson Hall).

The Neuroscience Office is located in 3039 Stern Hall. Stop by and see Sherrie Calogero.
